Google Checkout

Recently I bought iLife '08 from a guy on this Mac Swaplist for $50. He insisted we use Google Checkout, a service like paypal that I'd never used before, and I said sure why not. After getting my money, the guy went completely silent for a month and did not ship it, and I got pretty annoyed with the whole thing. I had used this list for years to buy and sell old Mac stuff and this guy comes along and makes me doubt if I can trust it. Also, I wondered if I'd ever see my money back since I couldnt figure out what Google's policy was on this sort of thing. Regardless of my doubts, I reported the guy to Google and to the Swaplist Feedback forum, hoping for the best, but not sure what to expect.

Well, I must say, Google went above and beyond my expectations! I was notified within a day, I think, that they were inquiring into it for me and were trying to reach this bad seller. After they could not reach him, it was elevated quickly and I got a more personal response from Google reassuring me that they were working on it. Then, after about a week, Google wrote me yesterday to say they had refunded the full $50 to my credit card! Amazing! I have to say Im very impressed. I mean, this was a simple, personal purchase with no guarantee attached to it since it was through that casual list, so Google really didnt need to be held accountable for it, in my opinion. Its a sign to me that they really care about the experience I had more than anything I think.

Also, after posting to the feedback forum, the "List Nanny" who moderates people's ability to post and whatnot on the swaplist wrote me and the seller to say that until this gets sorted out properly by the seller, hes not allowed to post on the list anymore.

So all in all, Im very happy with how this whole thing turned out and wanted to give thumbs up where thumbs up are due! Still no iLife '08, but oh well I'll live.

  1. That’s incredible. As much crap PayPal gets, I’m glad to see they have some healthy competition with Google Checkout – especially from a customer service standpoint. That’s great! I’m glad you got your dough back.
